Modern Shapes

The 20th century European design is now recognized as a major movement of the last century. Modern Shapes presents a delicate and timeless mix of interior and art pottery from that era. Our collection is mainly build around Northern European art ceramics set in a modern lifestyle environment. These pieces are all about purity in forms and nuances in colours. Their origins are as divers as their design. Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, United Kingdom, Netherlands, .... The ceramics produced are pure gems, sometimes very close to sculptures, with gentle curving, organic shapes and intriguing glazes. Masters like Berndt Friberg, Gunnar Nylund, Wendelin Stahl, Gotlind Weigel, Antonio Lampecco or Horst Kerstan have used glaze, colour and texture in a way that makes the pieces particularly tactile, very sensual, full of life and inspired by nature. All pieces are absolutely unique and were hand thrown. Some are museum-quality work by renowned masters, others are more discrete. But all showcase the same craftsmanship and sculptural presence that would compliment any modern style of contemporary interior.
